TOOTING MARKET, 21-23 TOOTING HIGH ST, SW17 0SN
After moving up to London I decided to go and explore a part of town that I hadn’t really ventured to before and I’m happy I did! Tooting Market, which I feel is still at the beginning stages of its development, has a similar set-up to Brixton Market, just smaller. There are a few restaurants and bars along with a clothing and bits n bob shops. I went on a Friday night and it wasn’t crazy busy which was nice but busy enough to have an atmosphere.
I heard about Graveney Gin from a friend, so I knew it would be good and it didn’t disappoint. It is TINY with a small seating area along each wall, with the bar at the back of the outlet. If there is not enough room to sit within you can always use the benches in the middle of the market to sit and drink your gin. Staff are friendly and inviting, they are very relaxed about you taking your gin to the restaurants within the market (but double check!)
Graveney Gin distil their own gin, right in front of your eyes and sell this with a selection of flavoured tonics. I went for what the guy recommended and it came with a cheeky slice of grapefruit as the garnish. The gin is quite sweet and perfect for a pre meal bevy. They also sell a bottle of it for £40 along with as many tonics as you need so it’s a great place to go with some friends as you can just buy one between you; £10 each and you’ll be more than merry before dinner or a night out!
